Red Panda Enclosure, Wellington Zoo
Daniel Street, Newtown, Wellington
This project was negotiated with the Wellington Zoo. The Design Philosophy was to create an enclosure and viewing experience based on a Nepalese village theme.
The entry to the enclosure is via a foot bridge crossing over a water feature replicating a mountain stream. This lead into an information Kiosk and onto a timber covered viewing deck both constructed in a typical Nepalese style. Off the viewing deck is an open aired limed court yard that allows viewing of the Red Pandas and a new timber post and beam wire meshed bird Aviary. A number of seats and planter boxes were built to create an authentic Nepalese experience.
This was a very satisfying project as it was challenging in its architecture and the end result demonstrates the ability of Trademark and its subcontractors in tackling something out of the norm and delivering a quality end product.
