No monkeying around at Wellington Zoo
The Wellington Zoo had developed a strategic plan to modernise which involved a number of new exhibits and refurbishment of existing structures. Tenderers were called from building contractors for a number of projects over a two year period. Trademark have been successful in securing the following contracts
- Zoo Marketing Offices – Negotiated contract
- Zoo Café - Tendered
- Zoo Ticketing Desk – Negotiated contract
- Red Panda Enclosure - Tendered
- Scaly Nursery – Negotiated contract
- Chimpanzee Enclosure - Tendered
Trademark Solution As main building contractors for each of the different developments we constructed and re-fitted several areas of the zoo. The chimpanzees’ enclosure got a complete re-vamp at a cost of $ 1,800,000. This included 57 precast concrete wall panels (up to 8 metres high) with structural steel frame and a coloursteel clad roof.
By demolishing some of the office areas, we created a new café. For the red pandas, we constructed a new enclosure and associated facilities based on a Tibetan Theme. Through the conversion of a portion of the old elephant house, we created an air conditioned facility for the scaly reptiles.
Result The chimpanzees had a new place to do their monkey business, zoo visitors didn’t miss out on their own feeding time, the red pandas felt more at home and the reptiles got the recognition they deserved in an area of their own. |
