Chimpanzee

PROJECT:
Wellington Zoo Chimpanzee House

LOCATION:
Wellington Zoo, Daniel Street, Newtown, Wellington

DESCRIPTION:
Trademark Building Services secured this project through a competitive tender. This was a total new build project adjoining the existing exterior Chimpanzee Park.

This new 350 m2 facility was constructed with a reinforced concrete slab, structural steel frame, precast concrete paneled walls, longrun coloursteel roofing, large 30mm thick specialized glazed viewing windows.

The internal space was divided up into two night enclosures, daytime enclosure and a rear service area.

Each of these spaces had a specialist fitout component and appropriate finishes to endure the high wear and tear factor associated with these animals. Specialist cages and gates to manage the movement of Chimps between spaces were installed together with steel nesting frames and climbing frames.

A substantial amount of siteworks were completed including a new timber framed viewing deck, retaining walls, fencing and asphalted walk ways and driveways.

This was an interesting challenge with a number of specific requirements to house the Chimpanzees. The delivered result is a building we are proud to have put the Trademark Stamp on.
